Welcome to ko-kos coffee
Introduction

Established in April 2019, Ko-kos Coffee Farm is part of the larger Boroon Estate a mixed-farming enterprise. It is situated at Segero, in Uasin Gishu county; right on the slopes of the Cherangany Hills of the Great Rift Valley. Although the site is not in Kenya's traditional coffee cycle, it has recently gained a reputation for its high-quality beans. This is mainly due to the ongoing coffee research and mostly, due to the following favourable natural factors:

  • Altitude: 1,900 – 2,200 meters above sea level
  • Soil composition: Volcanic
  • Rainfall precipitation: sufficient and reliable (April to September)
  • Sunshine: abundant (November to March)
  • Equator: Eldoret, the nearest town, is situated about 60 kilometres to the north.
  • Approximate annual production:
Heading towards our second harvest, we are expecting a harvest of between 1,100 -1,500Kgs.

Despite all the above natural benefits, we are actively using compost, mulch and manure without synthetic herbicides and other pollutants. Our farm inputs are largely organic.

Harvesting: Only the perfectly ripe cherries are carefully hand-picked.

"Handpicked for you!"

Coffee is always a good idea. Great ideas come from great coffee.

Soil Sampling

As we strive to deliver a Perfect Cup and maximise crop production, we have engaged the services of an Agronomist. It was with the help of an Agronomist, that we were able to choose the right coffee variety, best suited to our region.

Post Harvesting

There are several cherry processing methods out there i.e Washed process, Natural (Dry), Pulped Natural/ Honey, Carbonic Maceration, etc but at the moment we are currently using Fully-Washed and Natural processing.

Why Ko-Kos?

The name Ko-kos (pronounced Kõh-kôs in the Nandi language) is derived from our family’s heraldic animal, the Martial Eagle (P.Bellicosup), a pre-imminent and inspirational character, whose royal valour can boldly be felt by anyone who gives our Coffee a Slurp.
